The difference is, the verb To Be is used in the past instead of the present:
Subject + Was/Were + Verb_ING + Complement

The Past Progressive is often used for telling stories, like when you are remembering something that happened to you and talking about it.

For this post, you are going to write a short story of 8 sentences minimum, using the Past Progressive.
It can be something that really happened (to you or to your friends, something you saw in the news, etc), or it can be imaginary.

Remember, you can use the words "when", "while" and "as" to unite 2 ideas.
For example:
When I left the house, they were still talking on the phone. / I was snowboarding when I broke my leg.
While she was writing the email, the computer suddenly turned off. / He was thinking about the movie while he was walking to work.
As we were talking in the park, it started to rain. / Robert was waiting for us as we got off the plane.
This week, we studied the Simple Past tense, in the form of sentences, questions and answers.

For this post, I want you to choose a famous person from history.
1.- Introduce them by saying their name, who they were, and why you chose them. You can also post links to that person´s biography, his picture, etc.
2.- You are going to ask 5 questions about that person in the Past tense.
3.- Answer the questions

For example:
I want to write about Henry VIII. He was the King of England for the first half of the 16th century. I chose him because I am interested in British history, and because I like learning about kings and queens.

When was Henry born? - Henry was born in 1491. He was the son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York.
What were his biggest accomplishments? / What is he most known for? - Answer
Why did Henry separate England from the Catholic Church? - Answer
Did Henry get married many times? / How many wives did Henry have? - Answer
How did Henry die? / How old was Henry when he died? - AnswerProf. Irina Bonavinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05856401703574342250noreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9172921256128024237.post-43810532681523292982012-05-11T20:45:00.000-07:002012-05-11T20:45:15.041-07:00Week #3 - Simple Past TenseIn next week's class, we are going to study the Simple Past tense.

Simple Past has the same uses in English and in Spanish. We use Single Past for things that happened before the Present. (Subject + verb + complement)
Nota: (Los verbos en pasado no varian segun 1a, 2a o 3a persona, ni por singular o plural. Siempre son iguales)

Through
this exercise, you can familiarize yourselves with some irregular verbs.

- Write 1 sentence with each of the following verbs in the Simple Past tense.
Use 8 words per sentence, minimum:

1. Bought (to buy)
2. Did (to do)
3. Had (to have)
4. Knew (to know)
5. Made (to make)
6. Told (to tell)
7. Took (to take)
8. Saw (to see)
9. Went (to go)
10. Wrote (to write)
This week, you are writing 1 paragraph about your plans for a one-week vacation.

You can choose any city or country in the world. Say what you are going to do every day of that week.
Just remember, you are using the PRESENT PROGRESSIVE.
As we said in class, this verb tense can be used for actions in the future. To do this, you must specify when the action is happening, so use dates, days, times, moments, etc.

For example:
- When I arrive to Las Vegas, I am eating a big buffet dinner at the Bellagio.
- On Wednesday morning, I am playing poker at the casino. That night, we are watching a Cirque du Soleil show.Prof. Irina Bonavinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05856401703574342250noreply@blogger.com36tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9172921256128024237.post-29629138683904687412012-04-25T09:23:00.001-07:002012-04-25T09:23:32.656-07:00Welcome to English 1!This week, first introduce yourself (What´s your name?
